Optical Services

We provide high-quality frames and lenses for every lifestyle, even for occupational and recreational uses.  We have a style for any budget, from "fancy and chic" to "frugal and vintage"!

Call our optical department if you have a specific need:  (910) 997-7500 for the Rockingham office                            (910) 576-7371 for the Troy office.

As a courtesy, eyewear adjustments and cleaning are provided without an appointment. Our lens lab can fabricate prescriptions of all materials, helping us to specifically match your eyeglass requirements and needs.  Have a broken eyeglass frame?  We are one of the few providers in our area that can attempt to repair it.

Eye Examinations

The American Optometric Association recommends that all people should have a periodic, comprehensive eye examination every one to two years depending on your age and general health.  Please remember that your regular medical insurance plan will pay for eye exams if you have diabetes, cataracts or other eye conditions.

At Dr. Carlyle Haywood, OD, we incorporate computerized technology to assist with the evaluation of your eyes' health. Computerized examination tools are used to improve rather than replace personalized care.

Assessments include tests for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, the ocular effects of many general health disorders (diabetes and high blood pressure), and the effects of medications. A dilated pupil examination is needed to provide the best possible assessment of your current eye health. We require this for all new patients so a detailed baseline can be established.

With the high prevalence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in our area, we have recently acquired the DarkAdapt test which has the ability to diagnosis early AMD up to 3 years before ever being physically observed in the eye! Anyone with a family history of AMD should have this test to start treatment early rather than later when damage has already occurred.
